Breast Enlargement - Augmentation Mammaplasty
PRINT

Women with small or underdeveloped breasts, who wish to enhance their appearance, may choose to undergo a procedure called breast augmentation mammaplasty.

A fuller body contour can be achieved through the placement of implants either directly under the breast tissue or deeper beneath the chest wall muscle.

The choice of the implant is one of the most important factors for both the patient and the doctor. Implants are always used in accordance with the EU standards of quality.

The shape and size has to be selected by both the doctor and patient according to the dimensions of the body, chest and breast.

Although the implants are made of inert materials, it is always recommended by us to avoid having them placed under the breast gland. We recommend placing the implants behind the chest wall muscle which does not permit the implant direct contact with the breast gland. Additionally, the chest muscle gives a thicker cover, better shape and better feeling on touch. It provides protection against drooping and against the known hardness of the formed capsule. The place behind the chest muscle provides better conditions for the patient’s self examination and also with the mammography and ultrasound equipment as well.

A very important aspect of this operation is the place where the incision is made. There are three known places where the incision can be done: beneath the breast, at the lower half edge of the nipple, and in the axilla (under the arm).

We perform all the procedures and the choice is always made according to the needs of the patient.

Most patients can return to work within 4-5 days following surgery. Sutures are removed in 5 days. Exercise and other strenuous activities may be resumed in approximately one month. This surgery does not adversely affect future pregnancies or breast feeding or the health of the breast-fed children

The most common problem, capsular contracture, after surgery carried out by us, is very rare. This late complication, which occurs if the capsule around the implant begins to tighten and cause the breast to feel hard, can be treated in different ways. It sometimes requires either removal or "scoring" of the scar tissue, or perhaps removal or replacement of the implant. As stated above, it is important the way we perform the operation, the choice of the implant, and also the treatment during the recovery period is critical as well.

Before a date for breast augmentation is agreed, the patient is given all the required information and all outstanding questions are settled. A consent form is signed by both the patient and doctor. After the operation a report and aftercare instructions are provided for the patient.

Our long experience on this type of surgery assures the patient of the best possible results.
