Breast Lift - Mastopexy
PRINT

As a woman ages, her skin looses some elasticity, causing the breast to sag. Pregnancy and excessive weight loss can cause the breast to lose firmness and volume. A breast lift (Mastopexy) is the procedure for safely lifting the sagging breast. The procedure consists of excess skin removal and repositioning of the nipple. The breast skin is reshaped to create a more youthful breast. The remaining scars following the procedures are always inconspicuous. They are placed at the edge of the nipple or with extension below the nipple, or with extension in the crease under the breast. The length of them always depends on the degree of the existing damage.

The impression given that the nipple is removed and reinserted in a new place is completely wrong. In reality we remove the excess of skin, the nipple stays connected with the deeper tissue (the gland) and all together is formed in a better shape.

For better results, we recommend many times the use of breast implants along with the mastopexy procedure. This is mandatory if the breast volume is very small and insufficient.

Even though this surgery does not affect future pregnancies or breast feeding, the results of sagginess correction may not be as long lasting. Women who are planning further pregnancies may wish to postpone this procedure.

After a medication that achieves complete mental and physical calmness, local anaesthesia can be used to perform a comfortable and painless outpatient procedure. This combination provides the best conditions for the surgeon and the patient’s recovery. The procedure usually takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete. General anaesthesia is recommended for anxious patients.

Most patients can return to work within 3-4 days following surgery. Stitches can be removed on the 7th day. Strenuous exercise has to be avoided for a further 3 weeks.
